Little Green Dog home compostable pet poop bags break down in your home compost! These A4 size bags are made from plastic-free films. They require somewhere around 20°C to 30°C to break down, and will attain 90% degradation in 365 days.
Little Green Dog bags are certified under EN13432 for general compostability, registration number 7P2277 and TUV Home Compost certification S1069.
If they do end up in the rubbish it will take considerably longer (if ever) for any degrading to happen as the bags need microorganisms (faeces), heat, oxygen and moisture to react and totally decompose, this is not likely happen in landfill as everything is compacted (we are still researching this as there’s conflicting evidence).
Composting is the best way to dispose of home compostable bags.
This is not the case for biodegradable poop bags (which are not the same as compostable), they are made from forms of plastic that will “eventually” decompose which can take a hundred years and still micro-plastics are left behind, so putting them in your home compost pile isn’t going to cut it for biodegradable bags.
When composting keep in mind pet waste should not be used in your vegetable garden as dog poop can contain pathogens/bacteria. Compost separately and use on non-edible gardens only. **Make a home pet poop composter, follow this link** Or you can purchase an Ensopet here
These home compostable pet poop bags are made from PLA, PBAT, and glycerin. That’s it!
The bio-degradation of these three materials will happen when the bags come into contact with microorganisms (poo), plus heat, moisture and oxygen.
