Underarm Detox

So many of us are unaware of the dangers of using conventional deodorants and antiperspirants on a daily basis. They contain a plethora of harmful ingredients that you do not want under your arms; blocking sweat glands and directly accessing your body via the lymph nodes. This is especially dangerous if there’s a history of breast cancer in your family. Here’s some of the toxic chemicals that can be found in conventional antiperspirants: aluminium, formaldehyde, phthalates, parabens, propylene glycol (otherwise known as antifreeze, eeek!).

If you or anyone you know hasn’t made the switch to natural deodorant, there’s no time better than the present. When you do make the change, there’s a chance you’ll experience a little more sweating than before and a mild rash can appear under your arms. Do not become alarmed – this is your body detoxing and releasing toxins. Our bodies are supposed to sweat, and when you inhibit this function by using an antiperspirant for many years, all those nasty toxins become trapped. When you go natural, they are then released.

One way to combat this issue is to do an underarm detox. You can detox the rest of your body – including the skin on your face when you use a detoxifying face mask – so why not under your arms? Post-detox, you will need a natural deodorant that works. Read reviews, talk to friends and get recommendations. Our popular deodorants do a fantastic job, see Susan’s story below.

Under Arm Detox

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Get a glass bowl and wooden or non-metal spoon, add all the ingredients and mix into a paste with the water. You may not need all the water so put in a little at a time.
  2. Sit calmly and spread the paste over your armpits in an even layer. Leave on for 5-20 minutes, longer is better however it’s a good idea to start slowly and work up to a longer period of time once you see how your body adjusts. If it starts to hurt, remove the paste and try again the following day.
  3. Initially the detox may cause some redness as the blood-flow will increase to your underarm area but it should quickly disappear.
  4. The easiest way to wash the detox paste off is to hop in the shower and use a washcloth. If you are using soap make sure it’s totally natural, I use Be Rosy  Rose and Ylang Ylang, it smells and feels divine.
  5. Repeat the underarm detox daily or as needed until your under-arm odor goes away and using natural deodorant is non-irritating.
